Lindsay Smith Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome! I'm Lindsay.

I'm a Southern Ohio wedding photographer. I love blessing others through photography in Jesus' name. I'm married to a robotics engineer named Michael and we love meeting new people and creatively documenting their lives. What sets me apart as a photographer is my ability to create a unique, sophisticated, and fashionable experience for every client. On this blog you will find photos from my recent shoots and personal design projects. Thanks for stopping by!

I’m Moving!

For anyone who has not heard, Mike and I are moving to Colorado Springs this spring. We are so excited about starting fresh in a new place with new weather problems and new friends. Sadly, this will mean I am not booking summer/fall 2012 Ohio weddings. However, if you know any engaged couples who live in Colorado, please give them my name! I plan to move this business over to Colorado and continuing shooting weddings and engagements there.

Want to know a secret? A new state means a new house. A new house means a new excuse to decorate. And believe me, I can’t wait to blog about that!

Cheryl + Jack: Collier Chapel and Schindler Banquet Center Wedding

Photographing Cheryl and Jack’s wedding was a HUGE honor, because Cheryl has been one of my best friends since middle school. The whole day I was completely focused on working hard to make her wedding images beautiful. But that wasn’t a difficult task, because it was obvious to everyone attending the wedding that this couple was completely in love.

With multi-hued fall leaves practically everywhere, we took advantage of the natural environment during the First Look portraits. Cheryl’s fit-and-flare style dress was simply breathtaking from every angle. Take a look at some of my favorite images!

Cheryl, you’re gorgeous!

Congratulations to the Mr. and Mrs! May God bless you wherever the Air Force takes you.

Glittery Confetti Canvas Art

If it sparkles, I like it. If it has glitter, better yet. If it’s silver or gold and shines when light touches it… I’m so there. So, when I stumbled upon this DIY idea, I knew I had to make it for myself.

First, I bought a heavy duty canvas with a large thickness to create a statement piece. Then, I chose two different gold posterboard-weight sheets of paper, a circle paper cutter, and spray adhesive. All of my supplies were purchased at Michaels craft store.

Then, I punched out the paper circles, lightly sprayed an area of the canvas with the adhesive, and pressed each circle onto the canvas. I chose to place more “confetti” lower on the canvas, because I envisioned the circles falling from the top of the canvas to the bottom.

Voila! Tres chic.

Grace + Matt: Benham’s Grove Wedding

When Grace and Matt approached me about shooting their wedding, I was overjoyed at such an opportunity. I have known Grace since 7th grade, and I went to college with Matt. It was a delight to see the two of them become a couple, and a great celebration to see them join hands in marriage as well.

To complement her outdoor October wedding, Grace chose fall-themed wedding colors. The decor was rich with oranges, yellows, reds, and browns. Grace and Matt also provided me with over an hour to shoot their First Look, and here are some of my favorite shots from the day:

And one more quick shot of my wonderful assistant Melody, carrying some of our gear:

Fall In Alaska

Two weeks ago Michael and I went to Denali National Park.  Although we only drove about 15 miles into the park, the landscape of trees with changing leaves was absolutely gorgeous. But don’t take my word for it… look below!

My Wedding Featured on Style Me Pretty

One of the greatest rewards of my year and a half of wedding planning was having my wedding featured on Style Me Pretty. I had a particular vision of what I wanted my wedding day to look like, and I attempted to make as many details as possible fit that description. I believe weddings with a well defined “theme”, whether it be a color scheme or era or fashion genre, are more beautiful and are more enjoyable for guests.

Non-Occasional Flowers

You don’t need an anniversary, sickness, or holiday as an excuse to buy flowers. In fact, consider this permission to buy flowers simply because they are delightful. It may so happen that you fall in love with a particular bouquet, and find the need to bring them into your home. When this happens, you will appreciate the beauty of the flowers instead of the occasion they represent.

Melody and Lindsay Take San Diego

Melody and I recently went to San Diego to attend a conference. In between lectures, we squeezed in a few adventures. To begin, here was our view at sunset from the San Diego convention center. So many beautiful colors in the sky!

We made time for a girly photo shoot. Who doesn’t want a few head shots with a beautiful seascape backdrop?!

After the conference ended, Mel and I took a trip down to the San Diego Zoo. Photographing caged animals is not super exciting, but I couldn’t resist taking a shot of this cute little camel with a droopy hump:

When heading to lunch one afternoon, Melody and I discovered Pinkberry… And then we paid a daily visit for the rest of the trip. Yum!

Cheryl + Jack: Engagement Session

Cheryl loves traveling to far off places. Cheryl loves chocolate. Cheryl loves cats. Cheryl loves scarves.

And Cheryl loves Jack.

Cheryl is going to marry Jack at the end of October, and I am truly BLESSED to know them both. I can’t wait to photograph their big day. We spent several hours at the Narrows Reserve shooting their engagement photos last night. In between the intimate and romantic shots we were all laughing loudly and enjoying the end of summer.

Here are some of my favorites from the shoot:

DIY Table Runner Project

I wanted a table runner for my smaller-than-small dining room table, specifically in the color “light lime green” and for the price of $12 or less. Searching several different home decor stores for such an item proved futile. So, in a Pinterest state of mind, I set off to the fabric store to buy the supplies needed to make the table runner I had dreamed of my whole life. Or, a least the one I have wanted for the past several weeks.

Upon entering Jo Ann Fabrics, I found the gorgeous outdoor fabric shown below, selling for 60% below sticker price. I paid about $8 for a yard of the fabric, and also purchased 3 feet of the beading for $4. Bingo! My $12 table runner.

Here is where most DIYers put photos of their sewing progress. Sadly, I have no photos to show for the work I put into making this project. I basically just sewed two pieces of fabric together on 4 sides, using a zig zag stitch on the sewing machine. After completing the table runner edges, I added the ribbon beading to the two shorter ends of the runner, with the ribbon showing on the bottom of the runner. I hope this project inspires you like it did me!
