Yesterday I hiked Rocky Mountain with my family. I took a few photos with my point and shoot camera, the Olympus Tough. Here is proof that if you learn how to use a camera properly, even an inexpensive one, you can obtain great photos!

This post should really be called: “Excuses for why I haven’t blogged since November.” If you haven’t noticed, today is my day to catch up on 4+ image posts. Here is a fun list of a few things I have been doing while I’ve been away:
1. Finishing my graduate degree
There is really no reason for me to hide the fact that I am an applied mathematician in addition to being a wedding photographer. I’ve been working on my master’s in applied mathematics since August 2010, and I am happy to announce that one week from today I am graduating! The past four months of school have been intense while I have been writing my graduate thesis on image processing. Although I had a great time acquiring new knowledge, I am thankful to be finishing school and especially thankful to have some extra time for shooting.
2. Spending time with Mike
I love my husband; he is my best friend. I have enjoyed spending more time with him this winter since he was not deployed like last year. Melody was gracious enough to take some images of us last month (see below.) Thanks again, Mel!
3. Getting ready to move out west
Moving takes so much more effort than I remember from all my childhood moves! Mike and I are happy to announce that we are FINALLY going to be living in the same household in the same state by late August. We are so excited for what God has planned for us in Colorado Springs. Mike is going to be an instructor at the Air Force Academy, and I am going to be working nearby as a mathematician (and photographer, of course!!) I am even more excited to start posting images of decorating progress when we get a house. Pinterest and design blogs have gotten the best of me, ya’ll!

Sometimes when I am shopping for produce at the grocery store, I spy a flower in the floral section that I can’t stop myself from purchasing. This is one such flower.

When Mike was living in Alaska, he met Josh and Lindsay. Mike spent a lot of time hanging out with Josh, and the two were even deployed together for 6 months. Ironically, Josh and Lindsay moved to Dayton, Ohio last fall for Josh to attend graduate school, so I have had the pleasure of spending time with this amazing couple.
Last week Lindsay had a beautiful baby girl named Naomi, and I was blessed with the opportunity to take some images of the newborn. Although I’m not a baby photographer, I thought I would share a few of my favorite images.

For anyone who has not heard, Mike and I are moving to Colorado Springs this spring. We are so excited about starting fresh in a new place with new weather problems and new friends. Sadly, this will mean I am not booking summer/fall 2012 Ohio weddings. However, if you know any engaged couples who live in Colorado, please give them my name! I plan to move this business over to Colorado and continuing shooting weddings and engagements there.
Want to know a secret? A new state means a new house. A new house means a new excuse to decorate. And believe me, I can’t wait to blog about that!

If it sparkles, I like it. If it has glitter, better yet. If it’s silver or gold and shines when light touches it… I’m so there. So, when I stumbled upon this DIY idea, I knew I had to make it for myself.
First, I bought a heavy duty canvas with a large thickness to create a statement piece. Then, I chose two different gold posterboard-weight sheets of paper, a circle paper cutter, and spray adhesive. All of my supplies were purchased at Michaels craft store.

Then, I punched out the paper circles, lightly sprayed an area of the canvas with the adhesive, and pressed each circle onto the canvas. I chose to place more “confetti” lower on the canvas, because I envisioned the circles falling from the top of the canvas to the bottom.

Voila! Tres chic.
